High School Apprentice Day Project
On Tuesday, March 11 the senior economics classes sponsored their annual “Apprentice Day” project.
This class project is based upon the television show of the same name. Students were placed into groups for the sake of competition and assigned a task to accomplish. The goal for each group was to raise as much money as they could and then donate the proceeds to some one within the school community with a specific medical need.
Each group consisted of four individuals whose task was to select a food item and set about to find the best ways to market that product to the student body during an extended lunch period.
Each group selected a project manager, accountant, acquisition agent, and advertising specialist. This project was designed to help students learn and apply the most basic of economic principles such as supply and demand, market value, location, utility, advertising, labor and management, and challenged the students to use innovative thinking, people skills, and good old-fashioned hard work.
The project was a great success in every way. We did want to express our thanks to all the businesses who generously contributed to the project and of course to our parent community for all their help.
In His Service,
Mr. Wickstrom
