FLCS Honors English Program
Do you have an affinity for writing stories or poetry? Do you often find yourself buried in a good book? Do you want to push yourself academically and gain extra college preparation in writing, literary analysis, and communication skills? If so, the Forest Lake Christian School Honors English Program is for you!
If you are planning to participate this upcoming year, you must first complete the 2008 Summer Honors English Assignment:
1. Read three classic books over the summer from the Honors Reading List. Access the list at the bottom of the Home Page by choosing downloads. Then at the bottom of that page choose “Classroom Downloads”. All books are available at the Forest Lake Christian School Library.
2. These three books can be either a) by the same author or b) in the same genre (i.e., classic science fiction, adventure, comedy, allegory, fiction authors of the 1800’s, etc.)
3. You must write a three page (approximate), five-paragraph comparative essay on your chosen books, detailing within your paper three literary elements particular to your chosen author or genre. It is up to you, as the honors student, to decide how best to structure your essay, covering all three of your selected books, with a focus on your chosen author or genre.
4. Upon return to school in the fall, you must be prepared to present you essay finding in an oral presentation format, complete with an outline of your presentation notes and visual aids.
