ACSI Student Leadership Camp
Each year the Associated Student Council heads down to the Mt. Hermon campgrounds in Scotts Valley to embark on a wonderful adventure called “Leadership Camp”. This event is hosted by our Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). The three day retreat was fabulous. It was informational, inspirational, and immensely fun.
We left school on the morning of Wednesday, November 12th. Even though the camp is four hours away from school the time flew by as we chatted and enjoyed each other’s company. We spent our time at the retreat in many different ways. We sat in on sessions with our keynote speaker Ben Williams (professor at Bryan College in Tennessee), met with other councils from various Christian schools in attendance, and spent time in planning with our own council. We were blessed to be able to bring our own worship band to lead the participants in a time of worship at the beginning of each session. They did such a wonderful job!
Every session with our speaker was incredible. Our whole council absolutely loved our speaker. He spoke to us about what a leader is, what a leader should act like, and how we can be leaders in our world today. His talks were engaging and very relevant. He inspired our student council to step up to the plate in our roles as Christian leaders. We found out we were able to immediately apply his ideas in our council planning sessions.
As we return home our desire is to better serve and encourage our student body through the goals we set and we look forward to carrying out those goals throughout the year. The camp turned out to be an invaluable experience. We learned so much but also had such a wonderful time!
I personally loved being able to get to know everyone on council a little bit better. Whether it was playing silly games, going to the Boardwalk, or having fun “cabin excursions” at late hours, we all had a blast just hanging out together. I feel so honored to be on a team of such great people. All in all, Leadership Camp was a tremendous success and everyone enjoyed it. I cannot wait to see how the council is able to use what we have learned to encourage our student body to continue to grow into men and women of God.
