Choir updates - Music in the Park Trip

music-in-the-parksThis past weekend the Chamber and Men’s Chamber choirs embarked on a trip to Santa Clara to participate in the Music in the Parks Choral Festival. After checking into their hotel Friday afternoon, the students donned their choir apparel and proceeded to Milpitas High School where they performed several songs and were adjudicated. After performing, the hungry students invaded a local Hometown Buffet for some good eats and then heading back to the hotel for some rest and relaxation.

Saturday was a very fun day for the choirs. They had the treat of being able to spend the day at Great America enjoying the rides and attractions. Some students braved the rollercoasters, others frequented the carousel, a courageous few graced the karaoke stage - all had fun. The awards ceremony for Music in the Parks was held in the theme park that afternoon, whereupon the choirs found that they had received a rating of Excellent within all three categories they had competed in. Student accompanist and Chamber choir member, Michelle Granstrom, also received a medal for her skills as a pianist after accompanying the Men’s Chamber on a Latin piece during adjudications. Overall, the choirs were glad to have received such high ratings and cheered loudly for Mrs. Robinson when the time came to honor the choir directors. She has worked very hard preparing the choirs, and her work paid off.

On Sunday morning, the choirs packed up their belongings, enjoyed another complimentary breakfast in the hotel dining area, and then headed back to the charter bus. The students stopped in San Francisco around noon for lunch and sightseeing around Pier 39 and Ghirardelli Square. It was a beautiful sunny day and the students enjoyed some time to stretch their legs, shop, and enjoy some yummy food. Finally, they loaded the bus one last time and headed back to Forest Lake, tired but carrying new, delightful memories home with them.
