On Tuesday, October the 19th, the Forest Lake Christian School Community joined thousands of individuals from countries all around the world in showing their support for the “voice of the unborn” by participating in the seventh annual “Day of Silence”. Bryan Kemper of Stand True Ministries seeded this idea of encouraging students to spend a day in silent reflection considering the plight of the unborn who are unable to speak for…or defend themselves. In spite of an admittedly discouraging beginning to this idea in 2004, the 2010 “Day of Silence” was a very successful Pro-Life endeavor.
A number of our high school students attended an event held in Sacramento over the Labor Day weekend referred to as “The Call”. During this event they were introduced to Bryan Kemper and his ministry (bryankemper@standtrue.com) and came away with a passion for this most critical of issues within our culture, the value of life. With renewed hearts filled with compassion these students worked hard to put together the Forest Lake version of this day on our campus. From conversations within Bible classes concerning the power of the ultrasound (a picture is truly worth a thousand words), to fundraising efforts supportive of a local Crisis Pregnancy organization, to an extremely powerful assembly where testimonies were shared exposing the lifelong consequences of abortion, and the incredible forgiving and restoring heart of God, we would declare that our first annual “Day of Silence” was a success.
Two things really made on impression upon me over the course of this special day, Lia Mills, and hearts filled with compassion. Lia Mills is a twelve year old apologist for life who spoke during our assembly via YouTube, on the topic “Are the Unborn Human?” Although I have heard any number of adults speak to this topic over the years, none speak more succinctly or eloquently on this topic. (Check it out!) Please remember, this really is the essence of the debate over this issue…when does life begin? There are over 40 references to compassion in scripture and I was overwhelmed with the thought that his exercise could help to create geniune, biblical hearts filled with compassion and partnered with an intelligent apologetic for life. Who knows…perhaps it will be someone from this small congregation of believers who help put an end to this unconscionable practice of abortion.
