There was no room for them in the inn.

As we enter into this special season of the year, I am reminded of the comment made by that great historian Luke found in Luke chapter 2 and verse 7, “And she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” (KJV) The profoundity of that simple statement weighs heavily upon me as I consider that so many within our culture today have no room in their hearts for the savior either.

In the parable of the sower found in Mark 4 and verse 19 we discover why the hearts of men have so little room for a savior; “the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” Truthfully, our hearts are simply filled with other things.

Luke goes on to recount for us God’s remedy for these unfruitful hearts, by relating for us an announcement of Angelic proportions found in verses 10 and 11 of chapter 2 which reads, “And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ Jesus the Lord.” This message of hope from our infinitely gracious and loving God was designed to instill in us a sense of courage because of who He is, to bring us good cheer inspite of our circumstances, to be comforted when anxious, and to understand His heart of compassion for His creation. We need to fill our hearts to overflowing with this good news. It was, and frankly still is, a sad state of affairs that the greatest news of all time for all of mankind goes virtually unnoticed as we are so afflicted by the cares of the world.

My prayer for you and yours during this season is that you make room for the Lord in all areas of your life and that you will be filled with courage, cheer, comfort and compassion, because of His matchless gift of Jesus Christ. Please take advantage of each and every opportunity to share the good news that “unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and you shall call His name Immanuel”. The hearts of men desperately need this message of hope.

I hope to see you at one of our Christmas concerts this month. Invite an unsaved friend and let the message of Christ be presented to them through the blessing of music.
