dictionariesOn October 27, Mrs. Sparling’s third grade class was honored to receive a classroom set of new dictionaries from the Republican Women of Nevada County. The students were excited to receive their gifts and soon discovered the additional information that has been included in this addition. Students eagerly read about the largest number, continents of the world, interesting facts about our presidents, etc.

Thank you Republican Women of Nevada County!

Student letters to our Armed Forces

“I praise God for men and women like you who are willing to sacrifice everything to keep America safe.”  Mariah, age 11. “Thank you for protecting our country from danger.”  Andrew, age 8.  ”You’re my hero!” Drew, age 12. “When I get older, I want to be brave, just like you.” Sophia, age 11. “My family and I pray for you every night.” Erin, age 8.

These words were written this month by fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students in letters to members of our Armed Forces. These letters of encouragement will be included in care packages created by Operation Mom. Students also included their favorite Scripture verses.

Claire Wright Waves as Jr. Miss California

Courtesy/Auburn Journal

Thirteen-year-old Claire Wright was never the beauty pageant type.
“She grew up on a ranch with horses, cows, sheep and dirt,” said Claire’s mom Karen Wright. “She grew up going to mountain bike races in the dirt, camping on a ranch, and then she said, ‘Mom, I want to do this pageant.’ We showed up in our old pick-up truck, and she walked into that place and rocked it!”

Currently an eighth-grade student at Forest Lake Christian School, Claire Wright was crowned Jr. Miss California International 2010 on Sept 12. Claire had entered an Auburn pageant in January, where she won Miss Congeniality, along with a scholastic award and Miss Photogenic. But it was in April, at Folsom’s open competition, that Claire was first crowned, thus landing herself a spot in the Miss California International Pageant where she won Jr. Miss California.

“I never imagined that as a 13-year-old girl I could…

Personal Invitation to Parent Ed Night!

Dear Friends:

I am writing to personally invite you to our next Parent Education Evening. On Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the high school multi-purpose room we will continue examining our Biblical Christian Worldview and how it relates to current culture. I have been personally blessed and inspired by the wonderful response from our school community over the years. We have spent nine years together forging more efficient partnerships, maturing our Biblical Worldview, and exploring ways to most effectively grow our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord to best prepare them for Kingdom work, as we recognize the Day of the Lord is at hand.

As you know, we study different (albeit) related topics each year. In October, we begin our tenth season of Parent Education by addressing the issue of competing worldviews and how they affect the process of mentoring the emerging generation (the newest label…

FLCS Alumni Reflections

100_0903Recently, I attended my 25th high school reunion in Lake Tahoe California. There were 28 students that graduated in 1984 from Forest Lake Christian School, near Auburn. We were a typical class with a diverse group of kids, all gifted in different areas. (I was a cheerleader and softball player…not so good in the academic area) Because we attended a small school, there were plenty of opportunities to be involved in sports or academics, and by our senior year most of us had spent four years together, finding our way to adulthood through the friendships and experiences that our school provided. Our senior trip had taken place in two cabins on Eagle Lake, so it seamed fitting to reunite in the great outdoors once again.

The planning started many months before when several of us had connected on Facebook. My friends John and Cathy were the first to bravely suggest a…

Welcome Back

On behalf of the adminstration, faculty and staff of Forest Lake Christian School I wanted to extend a warm welcome to our brand new families and thank our returning families for their enduring commitment to Christian education. From our perspective it has become increasingly important to embrace the value of a distinctly Christian education. By distinctly Christian I refer to an education that is committed to teaching all truth from a world view that is based upon the Bible,  the inerrant Word of God.

In his incredible work “A Christian Manifesto” Francis Schaeffer warned us  that the problem with Christians in our culture is that they see the world in bits and pieces instead of total. “They have become very gradually disturbed over permissiveness, pornography, the public schools, the breakdown of the family, and finally abortion. But they have not seen this as a totality, each thing being a part, a symptom, of a…
